Oil Pressure gauge on my 94 4runner v6 drops down into the lower box on the indicator during idle. What should the actual oil pressure be at idle. Is it ok to drop into this lower box and if it is how far down into this bow would indicate a problem? Thanks, Dale

According to the Toyota specs it can drop to 4.3psi and still be within specs!!

I find my 22RE oil pressure falls very low (off the bottom of the factory gauge) if I run any oil thinner than xW40 in it. I usually run a 15W40 or 20W50 in it and the hot idle oil pressure stays up in the normal range. Once I ran a 5W30 and when it was hot the pressure plummeted. I've never measured the actual pressure, only go by the markings on the factory gauge.

It's a shame that Toyota didn't include an idiot light along with the oil gauges, because the gauges are pretty much worthless. Most people don't even bother looking it the entire time they're driving. Otherwise, we'd get this question a lot more often. I put in an aftermarket oil pressure gauge, but I also wired up an idiot light, cause I know that's the only thing that's going to get my attention when it counts.

Hi, I have same problem. Been using 10w30 since post-winter. (suggestion to change to other grades?). Gauge went taco since my last post a while ago. Now that I finally just got back home from my 7.5 mths trip (25425km later), I'm trying to put in a gauge.
My question is: Where is that thing that I have to take out to screw in my aftermarket oil gauge? (A picture will help a lot)
Is it that part with the black round rubber boot over below the oil filter or the little thing beside (left) of the oil filter?
Do I need to drain the engine oil first b4 unscrewing anything?

My 94 V6's oil pressure is doing the same thing. I run 10W-30 Mobil 1 and when it's cold I have very strong pressure, then when it's really hot idling the needles is over the L. so I tap the gas pedal every once in a while in traffic to make sure the upper end is getting oil. My plan is to get a set of oil/water gauges and just hook them up to take readings, not install them. go from there....

My 22RE does that as well, unless I run xW40 or thicker oil, so that is what I do. Usually 10W40, 15W40 or 20W50. Oil pressure sender is under the black rubber boot below the oil filter on the 22RE.

I'd actually like to install 2 mini gauges under the CD player in place of the useless pocket. I think i've seen some supra guys do that with boost gauges. what's the smallest gauge size you can get?

YOU GUYS ARE GONN A LOVE THIS! Flipping through summit's gauge section.... a DIN digital gauge panel! has Volts, Oil, Water. Takes the place of the pocket! only draw back is it's $130, but it's DANG SWEET, DIGITAL. I might get one.
