Anyone done this? Will the 22RE bellhousing swap to the R150, or is there a 22RE-compatible bellhousing that would do the trick?
I am thinking through a migration path for a 3.4 swap for my 4Runner*, and my stock tranny synchos seem to be trending downhill (slowly, fortunately). So I would rather do the swap and 23 spline conversions, than rebuild the stocker and replace it shortly thereafter. Don't yet have a timeline, depends on funding (which of course depends on a lot of other things... ).
(I could do the R151, but good ones are rare and remans from Marlin are not trivial. Also, a conversation with Dave @ Marlin left me wanting the 96+ R150, as it has more bronze bushings and is a stouter unit than the R151. A solid cheap R151 wouldn't break my heart... could I also have a doggie and a pony with that? )
*which would include the engine, rad, tranny, universal harness, Marlin V6 plate, 23 spline input on both cases. Oh, and a Sawzall hood. Not for the fainthearted. [ June 30, 2003, 11:31 AM: Message edited by: Bill_Morgan ]

Bill...Its Monday morning for Gawd Sakes! I dont know what you did all weekend...but I pulled my freshly installed motor to fix a...umm vibration. WLMFFM is rubbing off on you!! LOL Seriously though, since you are planning the motor swap in the near future..I would agree that moding an R150 to work with 22R until then would be in your better interest. Didnt the R150 come on the turbo'd 22R-Es? Or if that was the R151...dont they have similar cases? Maybe Im still confused sitting up vertically for the first time in two days... ~Darin

The R151 is the RE-T tranny, 23 spline tcase input. The R150 is the V6 tranny, mates nicely to the 3.0 OR 3.4, updated after 95 (and sounds a tad more whiney - and is a tad stronger - if my wifes 4Runner is any indication). But I never heard of one mated with a 22RE. That's the beauty of the R151, unfortunately for me its well known.
It'll come to you or Oakey as soon as your BAC returns to the normal range.. LOL [ June 30, 2003, 01:55 PM: Message edited by: Bill_Morgan ]

Would there be issues bolting it to a non chain driven t-case? Just curious as I am V-6 and chain t-case "challenged" LOL

Oakey: Precious!!!! It is mine! Mine! Jay: Master looks after us. Master wouldnÆt hurt us. Oakey: Master broke his promise. Jay: DonÆt ask Jay. Poor Jay. Oakey: Master betrayed us! Wicked, tricksy, false. We ought to ring his filthy little neck. Kill him! Kill him! Kill them both. And then we take the precious and we be the master. Jay: The fat hobbit. He knows. HeÆs always watching. Oakey: Then we stabs them out. Put out his eyes. And then make him crawl. Jay: Yes! Yes! Yes! Oakey: Kill them both. Jay: Yes! No. No. ItÆs too risky, itÆs too risky. Oakey: We could let her do it. Yes. She could do it. Yes, precious she could. And then we takes it once theyÆre dead. Once theyÆre dead.
Heheheh... MY R151F!!!! MINE!!!!

Jay has just revealed to all he is too well-read to be a true redneck. Either that or he rented the movie. I have a line on a Precious. Its mine. Looks like the 3.4 readiness campaign is starting with an R151, perhaps with a light freshening, my first tranny teardown. That, and a new 23 spline input for mister front reduction box (that would not be the first time I have been in there). Mr. rear box can wait a while.
quote:
Would there be issues bolting it to a non chain driven t-case? But the wizard Marlin has cast his spell on virgin aluminum solving your issue with an MC07 V6 adapter. For four and a half dead presidents. Your sig says 22RE though... so you ain't got a R150, right? [ June 30, 2003, 06:58 PM: Message edited by: Bill_Morgan ]

So now it looks like: Phase 1- R151, and new 23 spline input for the front tcase. Freshen as needed. Phase 2- 23 spline for the rear, and 23 spline adapter for the MC. Mebbe throw in that trick AllPro output shaft, the one without the groove that has been known to snap. Let stand until wallet recovers. Phase 3- inherit boku bucks. Hey, I can hope. I have no more living relatives though, much less with money. Maybe I can borrow one. Phase 4- pick up a Taco or Runner with flat-taco-itis but no engine damage. Pick up a harness from Mike Caskey. Pick up a radiator. Pick up a V6 bellhousing. Figure out a clutch. Relocate the motor mounts. What am I forgetting? [ June 30, 2003, 07:08 PM: Message edited by: Bill_Morgan ]

Bill,
I really think you should just skip the R151 thing you know??? Becaus efinding a bell housing w/ the right input shaft length for the V6 might be kinda difficult, you sure you just don't want to go w/ the R150???? ::froths at mouth::
::looses grip on sanity::
Swamp and pool are nice and cool, and how I wish to catch a fish... so juicey sweeet!!!!!!!
::lucidity returns::
In all honesty I wish you luck, I hope the R151F thing works out for yah, if you have any leads on one let me know... I actually only need the transfer adapter housing and the output shaft from the gearbox. I do have ways of importing them from Japan though, so if all else fails I will do that.
Bill is our friend, Bill will help us!!! No he isn't!!! Bill tricks us!!!! You have no friends!!! But he is nice, he will helps us yes?

Bill, yeah I have a w56. I was just curious, and wanted to make sure I had the info correct. I like to take all this info in, just in case it leaves me swap options at a later date.
Thanks, Taylor...
