I'm thinking more & more that this part is causing my rear calipers to heat up. Anybody ever replaced it? If so, where did you get it? A used part would probably do fine. Not like they are a frequently replaced part...

I've never looked at an rdb monty. Are the calipers the type that slide on the caliper bolts? Check the bolts for any crud and corrosion,, then I'd replace the piston oring (probably a square edge ring), AFTER I polished the piston with 400grit paper. Unless the LSPV is seriously pooched, it should not trap backflow to the MC reservoir when you come off the brake.

You might try spinning the wheel with the suspension loaded (jack stands under the axle) and with the suspension extended (stands under the frame) both before and after brake first apply.

Next, do you have the right brake hardware, especially the shim between the piston and pad. To properly retract, the pad has to "stub" its leading edge on the disc, and is usually cocked to do this slightly by the shim which has a partial cutout in the piston/pad contact area. If it doesn't stub, it's likely to drag some and heat up the brakes.

Also check the ebrake cable for proper adjustment and release (this one has shoes in the disc hub, right?).

My rear pads had to be replaced fairly quickly after I bought the truck. I'm still not sure why. When I replaced them I also cleaned and regreased the slides. After re-assembly and a short drive my disks were sticking and super hot. After they cooled and I limped home I took the lot apart again and found when I assembled the slides I needed to burp the air out past the slide boots. The air pressure inside the slide bores did not allow the caliper to release fully. FYI

Sorry FE,

I should have referenced my two previous posts:

1st brake post

2nd brake post

Basically, in the rear I replaced pads, calipers, sliding pins, soft hoses & 1 hard line. Still hot! I then took off left caliper & drove without caliper on the rotor. Cool as a Cucumber! Right caliper also gets warm but not hot like the left caliper.

I bled the rears & proportioning valve after I did all the rear brake work. This weekend I replaced a soft hose up front & bled all 5 - rear/pro valve/front.
