Getting the Wheeling Fever
|
My '98 Trooper with 88K miles has started to see a lot of fluctuation with the oil pressure. Most of the time it runs around 80psi and goes up and down 10 to 15 lbs with acceleration which is normal. Lately, on occasion the oil pressure drops by appx 30lbs. It runs at around 20 at idle and up to 50 at high rpms. Again, this only happens once in a while although it is happening more frequently. Any thoughts? Sticking pressure relief valve in oil pump maybe?
Thanks

Once in a while?!! At 88K I really wouldn't suspect a mechanical failure, although driving principals may promote something in mechanical failure. Good chance the sender is weak. I prefer mechanical guages for this reason. Check/change your oil if it's been a while, might help, can't hurt...Cal

Where is the oil pressure sending unit located on the 3.0 V6? I could not find it in the shop manual. Thanks.

I am not aware of a 3.0 in a '98 Trooper, the oly two engines were 3.2 and 3.5. If your 8th charicter in the VIN # is a W, you have a 3.2, if it's an X you have a 3.5. Both of these motors have the oil press sender next to the oil filter. Bon chance...Cal

Thanks guys. It's a 3.5 (my mistake). I'll look for the pressure sending unit tonight.

See that ? I knew Cal could help. I didn't think there was a 3.0 either, but like I sed, only know them older buggies.
Sometimes the fix is as easy as plugging and unplugging the connector a few times... try that first.
