Hey thanks to all the input I got from this list regarding the front brake job I inquired about a few weeks ago on my '89 PU. It was a ball buster but I finally got it done. It took much longer than I thought it would...like two afternoons. One for each side but I was taking my time in the 95 degree heat using only the Haynes, this list and it's webpages. And hand tools - no air...that is, tools or AC.

Biggest pain in disassembly was getting the disc off the hub. Biggest pain in assembly was figuring out if I got the hub lock and springs in correctly. Best tools for the job were the torque wrench and, most importantly, the BFH!

But whoever posted earlier about this was correct in that I wouldn't ever get close to the level of care I got by doing it myself. I may have been cursing you all out for convincing me to do it at the time. But in hindsight it was really the best way to go. Not to mention the $300 plus dollars I saved.

BTW-I installed Axxis pads with OP rotors and Timken outer bearings and one inner. Thanks again for all the advice and encouragement.

You have to take people's time estimates with a grain of salt. The first time you do any job it is going to take you longer, but I bet if you had to do it again you could do it in a day now.

Congrats on doing the job yourself and saving some money in the process. Are you happy with the results?

So far, so good. The Axxis organic pads are sweet. (Sounds like you buy them in a health food store)

Next I want to try the rear drums. I haven't done drums in about 20 years. Are aftermarket drums available ??
