I bought my Monty used and it only came with 1 remote. I've searched around and only a few places sell my exact factory remote. It's expensive. On eBay, there are newer model Mitsu keyless remotes going for dirt cheap.

So my question, will any Mitsu remote work on my factory keyless entry? I'm thinking similar to a garage door opener where you can get any transmitter to program to the opener.

If not I'm SOL, then does anyone have a good remote for a 95 Monty SR? It would probably help if anyone could post the Code/Product numbers on the back of the remote. Mine are worn off.

I do not know whether the newer remotes will work or not. Here is the info on the back of my remote for my 95 SR. The Mits. dealer gave it to me after I purchased my used Montero from them several years ago. They had a whole cardboard box full of various kinds. FCC ID E4EG8DA, DOC/MDC:1814 K1010, ORMON G8D-281M-A
The dealer's mechanic could not program it through the under dash data port. I had to remove the right rear inside plastic side panel and reach up past the rear speaker to move the switch to the program position on the remote receiver and then back to normal position after it sensed the transmitter signal from the remote. Programming directions are in the shop manual and the dealer ran me a copy. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the numbers! I was researching the frequency range of the stock transmitter and the newer ones on eBay. They are on different frequency ranges so I'm a little skeptical. There aren't many remotes which run the same frequency range as stock, period. I think I'll still give it a try though.

Has anyone been successful programming a new remote with the data port? Or do I have to use 89raider's method?

Look (on Ebay or elsewhere) for a remote with "FCC: 60H-M24" on the back. It doesn't matter what car it is for as long as it has the same FCC code as the one you need to replace.

Found out matching the FCC codes work for virtually any remote. For example, I have got cheap replacement remotes for my 2000 Subaru Forester that were OEMs for Dodge and Ford. If you don't mind the case having a different logo than the car you are using, it's a cheap way to go. I've gotting replacements on Ebay as low as $5. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />
