My fiancee`s 93 2 door Cherokee with the 2.5L and 5-speed has stated acting funny, it'll run fine all day long until I have to get hard on the go pedal. I just did a tune up, replaced distributer cap and rotor, plugs and wire. I also put in a new fuel pressure regulator. I'm starting to think that the fuel pump or the ignition coil are the culprits. What do you guys think?

Start with the fuel filter, if that don't help, get a gauge and test fuel pressure.

Now and then one needs to replace the coil with the plugs! Modern engines run 100K on their plugs. And it just bout does in a coil! But it does sound like the fuel filter. Do that first. Big Jim

I should've added in that the fuel filter was replaced as well.

Ok dude just which PLUGS did you put in there? Many plugs are not compatable with your engine.. The factory knew what it could use and put em in right off.. Big Jim

Ok BigJim, my dad works for a parts store and told me the plugs I'm using are the propper heat range and everything. They are Champion copper cores....or sumthin. The engine was running even worse before I put those in, the ones that came in the truck when I bought it were 3 platinums and one regular, plus the dizzy cap and rotor were pitch black , very sluggish. The engines got 221,000 miles on it and still runs strong but its giving me fits when I have to get to speed or get run over .
Sunder, I have a Haynes and the tool so I'll give that a try as well.

If it checks out Ok go ahead and get another coil from your Dad and try that. You did give a good case for a coil.. Not liking a load is the way most go away. Big Jim

I priced one and it only cost $20, so I decided to go ahead and have a completely new ignition in there just to rule it out.
Alot cheaper than a fuel pump and a heck of a lot easier to replace .
I'll keep yall informed on if it fixes it or not.

Alot cheaper than a fuel pump and a heck of a lot easier to replace . Well, I take that back the coil is deep in the engine bay and you have to fight it off of its bracket or fight the bracket off of the block either way its a pain . after an hour and alot of cussing I got it replaced. Right off I noticed the idle was even smoother than before. I'm about to go road test it .
