Oh, without question. The Amigo weighed in at 4020lbs at a local truck stop... and I haven't even added that much too it (relatively anyway). 5k is conservative for your monster <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/oink.gif" alt="" />

Oh well, let me rephrase then, I'm at least pushing 6k then. I've got an addition 2k probably in just axles, wheels, and tires alone.

Those D60's must weigh a ton. I would guess that my D44 SAS didn't really add too much weight to the vehicle. Although the axle and leaf springs do weigh more than what I took off, there was alot of IFS crap that was removed also. Now the larger tires, roof rack, high lift jack, and bumpers are a different story.

My 89 Trooper RS is 3700 pounds. And the 90 4 door Trooper weighs in at 4400. But it has OBA, sliders, a winch, heavy front and rear bumpers. Both befores no afters.

I have to go get my tags renewed today û so, last night I was getting the paperwork together, and I noticed where the Gross Vehicle Weight is claimed to be 4000 lbs. on the registration.

I looked at that figure and immediately thought ôThereÆs just NO WAY!ö --- More than likely, someone somewhere along the line just guessed at the empty weight - because even before all of the mods (bigger tires, rock bars, brush guard, etc.) this thing wouldnÆt have tipped the scales at 4000 lbs. with Helium in the tires! (*metaphorically speaking)


I only mention this because the exact same sort of clerical error might also apply to someone else - therefore, just in case - for an accurate before & after, youÆll probably be better off putting it on the scales both times, rather than relying on whatever it says on your registration.

Gross Vehicle Weight? are you sure? 4000lbs sounds almost low. GVWR (which is whats stamped inside the doorjam) is NOT your vehicle weight, but rather than how much your vehicle can weight at maximum capacity.

What I think you're referring to, and what this thread is about, is curb weight, or how much your vehicle weighs just sitting there. Not to be confused with GVWR.

EDIT: Smiley, on a side note, you may have that weight rating on your registration due to titling issues. For instance, if your Rodeo is classified as a "car" rather than "truck", you probably can't be much more over 4000lbs. For instance, in NC, my F250 has to be registered with commericial/weighted plates since its GVWR is over 7000lbs... I pay almost $200 to tag it each year in order to cover it and a 10k lbs trailer.

my 86's owners manual stated curb weights under 4000. I doubted that, but only way to know for sure is to hit the scale.

Yeah, i really didnt expect these things to weigh that much. On the last Uwharrie trip, me and dad towed the trooper, and found that it weighed more, and produced far more strain on our truck than a 1954 Buick! Incredible. We were even worrying about our transmission by the time we got to Uwharrie. Needless to say, we will not be trailering this truck up there anymore...
