Getting the Wheeling Fever
What gains would I get by using stock rear springs up front?
Do I have to move the mounts any to use them up front?
And lastly, does anyone make 5" lift rear springs in the stock length for an 86 pickup?
I'm finishing up the solid axle swap on the front, but the front will sit a lot higher than the rear. The rear springs are stock with 2" blocks and longer shackles. I would like to get rid of the blocks and use an all spring lift.
Thanks for the advise <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Gains are whatever you want to build into the pack, main gain is 2" forward axle location for better firewall clearance: http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/4R_suspension-III.shtml#CustomSprings
You will need more than one spring pack.

Move mounts, yes or no, depends on your needs: http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/CrossoverSteering/index.shtml#SpringHangerDrop
New spring, lowered spring hangers are a big +. And since you are doing a SAS, you are doing that anyway.

I imagine a few of the off-the-shelp places make 5" stock length rear sprigns, or call up Alcan (http://www.acanspring.com/) and they can make you a set.

Roll Me Over
Moving the axle forward is the main reason for running rears up front. We built this set-up on a a buddies '92 SAS. By only running the rears up front(along w/x-over steering) and cutting the fenders allowed him to run 37 Krawlers, the rear we used Chevy 54" w/2" blocks and longer shackles. With this setup, his truck's entry height is just a little higher than my '90 with 4" IFS Susp. lift and 33's.

More than tread lightly. Leave it like you were never there, nor anyone else.
