Does anyone know of a site to run chevy block numbers to get the year and any other info that might be helpful? Thanks

I'm not sure of the site, but that info would be nice, I hope you get it figured out.
I was wondering about your profile, you put "welded front", I'm assuming you welded your chunck in the front-end. What are the drawbacks to that, and what about the advantages?
