First the cost: $100 - 4.88 ADD front diff (Converted to non-add) $125 - 4.88 V6 Rear $120 - Shipping for both diffs (Could be worse i guess) $16 - 2 Front Seals / 2 rear axle seals $50 - 5 quarts of Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear oil $4 - RTV gasket maker $415 - TOTAL COST TO RE-GEAR!
Performance? Jumping from 4.10's to 4.88's is awesome! I can actually maintain my speed when going up hills! The 22re is much happier operating in the stock powerband once again.. I'd say these gears are just right for 33's on an X-cab P'up

i have 4.10 in my 84 ex cab now with 33's. I had 4.10's with 31's and I thought the only thing that saved me was my R151 transmission's 4.33 granny first gear. With 33's I could see your clutch and your rod and thrust bearings taking a beating. Hurry you need lower gears! -- Matt

Told you Kaptain. Now you have Toyota brand 4.88 ring and pinions, (I here they are of pretty good quality, unlike aftermarkets!) Also already "broke-in". As ZUK told me, "run 'em, beat the piss out of them, no need for the break in procedure")

I'm looking forward to wheeling with the 33's soon.. I'm just hoping the Front diff will hold up with the swampers... (4.10 open w/ 31's showed some carnage, Pics of that will be up soon) Hopefully Zuk can explain that one to me..

Your trail running will be much nicer now too, you will bne able to crawl over things now that you used to have to gas it over. You should also find yourself not using the brakes as much on descents.
More than tread lightly. Leave it like you were never there, nor anyone else. '90 X-cab 4.88's 33 BFG AT's, rr ARB, Headers, Ignition upgrade, cold air induction. '91 X-cab 5.29's 315's BFG MT's, rr ARB, custom bumper and flatbed
