Get a hammer and let that starter know who's boss

then replace the contacts on it, 4crawler has a link about it somewhere.

Mebbe the brushes also?

I have the same problem its intermintent though. Try unhooking the little electrical clip that goes into your starter. Then take a piece of wire, I use speaker cord, and run from positive battery terminal to the starter where you removed the clip. It should start up, don't forget to have the ignition turned on. If it works then your starter is good but electrical is bad or corroded, a common problem.

If you follow this advice, PLEASE remember to put the truck in neutral... don't want to run over your own foot!

I had this problem too. To test the starter, jump the two electrical connections on the starter itself with some wire,, if your contacts in the starter are good, then it will crank (as noted, be in neutral).

In my case, the starter was fine, but my battery connection was corroded. Right where the starter cable bolts to the battery. Could also be loose conections on the battery.
