Mflint... He used sb to isolate the small block engine from the big block and the 4-banger or even a six cylinder.. Them that knows engines calls em sb or mice engines.. The term comes from the 396/427/454/504 being named GM's RAT engine.. then the smaller engine (sb) would be any of the lighter, smaller engines. I think the Ford 302 would be a great install in a Jeep. So he was asking why you did not install a small cu in v-8 instead of the 6 cyl... Big Jim

Thanks for clarifying. Why the Jeep 4.0? Since it's a direct bolt up from where the 258 used to be, it should be an easier swap. Plus, I didn't want to deal with a carb so I went with a fuel injected 4.0.
Since I'm looking for a long-term solution to my problem and I've had a 4.0 before so I just decided to go back to it.

You most likely made a wise choice.. I think I would have torn the old one down and stroked it with a 4.0 head and a GOOD camshaft. Then Maybe the offy intake with the little 390 4 barrel carb and one of those Calif exhaust manifolds with duals from the manifold.. I only would have done these changes to see what the final product was.. Your choice is prolly a far better daily driver. Big Jim

That was sort of my original plan. I tried to find someone that knew enough about engines to stroke it but everyone around here kept sayin' it couldn't be done. It's getting close to active duty time so I had to do whatever I could. It's all good though. I should have a pretty great running Jeep when it's all done. We just yanked the tranny out and it's going to the shop tomorrow. Axles went to the shop to get 4.10's and a rebuild...it should all start coming together next week! Thanks to all of you who have and continue to contribute to my fiasco!

it can be done hesco has the kit to do it and i belive they have a new head for more power also. they also have alot of other things for a stroked engine.
as for the wireing harness fiasco,i think maybe painless wiring may have something good luck and be safe on active duty
out of all the jeeps in this town the d**n gremlin had to invade mine
I've done so much, with so little for so long i can practicly do anything with nothing
