Getting the Wheeling Fever
I took my runner in today for the recall. In the past month I've replaced front ball joints; upper and lower, tie rod ends, idler pully and pitman arm.

I had previosly called to confirm that my truck was covered and that a full alingnment was included.

I picked up the truck this afternoon, they said thanks, gave me no paper work, and I was on my way.

The truck drove nice and straight. When I got back to the office I looked under the truck to see the new part. What else I saw was that three of the dust boots on the parts I had installed were torn. WTF?! I took the truck staight back. The service writer told me that they knew the boots had torn and ordered the new ones, they just forgot to tell me. Sure!

So in two days I get to take my truck back and see if the new Toyota boots they ordered fit my aftermarket parts.

Now I remember why I do all my own work.

Oh well enough venting, I'm going home to work on my MR2 for awhile.

Anthony

Ball Joint Recall???

When was this? I might need to look into this. I already had the rod recall done. They never mentioned anything about a ball joint.

If you replace the idler arm yourself will they then align it for you for free if you bring it back in?

Dunno - I think they will probably say they will need to charge me. Anyway, this is a good opportunity to learn how to align the front steering myself. (my truck has always pulled to the right anyway...)

Whoo, thanks to you guys this pretty much saved my life. I took a look at mine and its in pretty awful shape, a bad bump and it could snap at anytime. Called toyota and everythings all setup and a free front end alignments all setup as well.

Also, whats this balljoint recall I see? What years did it affect n how can I find out if mines defective.

Thanks,
Brandon

The ball joint recall is on certain 2001 û 2002 Model Year 4Runner, 2001 û 2004 Model Year Tacoma 4WD and PreRunner, and 2002 û 2004 Model Year Sequoia and Tundra vehicles. So you won't see much about it on this "Early Toyota Trucks" forum. It has a sticky on the Tacoma forum: http://www.4x4wire.com/forums/showf...;amp;o=14&fpart=all&vc=1

Getting the Wheeling Fever
So I take my truck in for new relay rod, it takes them roughly 3 hours to do it. The next day I'm hearing a clanging sound from underneath. Apparently the new way to fasten a splash gaurd is by only using 2 of the 4 bolts...lol. So anyways, I figure I might as well yank the splash gaurd off all the way and check out the rest of thier work. That's when I notice that the dust boots on both tie rod ends where they attach to the relay rod were torn. So I call them up tell them what's up and they have me come back in. So today I go down there, they take my truck into the garage...............................2 hours later they tell me that they don't have the parts.....it took them that long to figure that out? Well the good part is that I will be getting all new tie rods, but so far I've spent 5 hours there and my truck is in way worse shape now than it was when I started all this mess. Hope not everyone has to go through all this crap.

ehh I didnt have a very good trip to the dealership either. Took them 3 DAYS to fix mine, and they had the parts, apparently alignment takes a few beers couple of farts and a pinch of luck to do it. Truck rides beautifull, but they some how got my steering wheel crooked *sigh* Havent checked the boots yet...I really should do that though.
I did notice after taking it there though, my 5 speed use to grind Only in 2nd gear, all 5 of them are doing it now. Soo not too sure what to do about that.
