Roll Me Over
My '90 (built vin Dec. '89), also wasn't part of the recalled HG's. It was also in a head on accident in '92, actuall I "T'd" a car that swirved in front of me. The cost to fiix it was just over $11k, the insurance wanted to total it. Since I wouldn't have recouped enough money to put me back in one of the same year/value, I forced the insurance to fix it. The main problem other than hood, bumper, grill, and right fender, was a bent frame behind the right front wheel. The bent frame is common with these rigs in a front end collision. It could be that the owner didn't fight with the insurance and just let them total it for the bent frame. A buddy of mine bought an '86 that was Salvaged for the same thing. As long as the cab is original(no piecing in of the upper from a roll-over), a salvaged title on these rigs are fine.

I think the best sign your V6 is gonna have a head gasket failure is the "3.0" on the intake maifold. lol. sorry

Well... maybe eventually. I do think there is something to the early 3.0s being more stable than the later ones though. I'm a 3.0 basher, having owned two, but I'd buy it all things being equal - and the price being right.

I used to be a little scared of a salvage title, and they are harder to insure sometimes, but after seeing some of my friend Oleg Kazansev's work, I would buy one from him. So it depends on who does the rebuild, really. I think folks are scared of what they don't understand. The more you know about how these salvage decisions are made and how the rebuild is done (and by whom), the more comfortable you might be with a particular unit.

That doesn't mean the person to whom you resell the unit would be, though.

Simple deal, Brian- get it checked on a frame machine and have a mechanical once-over.

Body Damage is Cool
Brian, for what it's worth, my 1995 v6 was not covered in the v06 campagin and I have not had any problems related to the engine. On the other hand, my brother has a 93 that had the campagin done and then needed another HG recently. I've heard all sorts of excuses as to why the HGs fail, from bad material used to being folded and stapled in the parts department.

rant
Lots of people love to bash the engine b/c it is "weak" and "slow" - in my opinion it hauls a half ton in the bed just fine, and has torque all day in the woods. If you want a faster vehicle get a car - that's what I did.

what is the "v06 campaign," and how can I find out if my 1994 4Runner is subject to it?

Thanks!

Once I had a Raider, made it run. Brother can you spare a dime?

Call any Toyota dealer, ask about the headgasket recall for the Toyota V-6 and ask them to run your VIN number to see if the recall applies to your truck and if so, if it was ever done.

It's debatable whether the recall is still in effect. I've heard both ways. There is a brand new recall on the steering rod, so you might as well get that done.
