Body Damage is Cool
A friend of mine is giving me a tired 22re out of his 1989 pickup. It has somewhat of a rod knock so I may have to source a crank if I can't have this one cleaned up.

Is .040 the max I can bore this motor out to?
Is it worth it to punch it over this much?
I want a torquer 22r motor and was thinking of running o/s valves in it too.

What kind of HP gains would I get out of a overbored motor?
Anything else I should add to this when I build it besides different valves and a rv cam?

Any tips or pointers on this subject would be appreciated.
Thanks

Mine is 0.020 oversize and that bumps you from 2366cc to 2392 cc, a whopping 1% increase. I guess 0.040" over would net you a 2% increase in displacement over stock.

i know you can got at least 60 over on a 22R, but i don't think it's worth it unless you're having a really hard time finding a good block.

as a rule of thumb on these, punch them out only enough to clean up the cylinder walls. my 20/22 is 40 over because of a deep mystery nick in the #1 cylinder wall when i tore it open.

Only reason I am concidering even building 22re is it's free to me. I figured some machine shop work might give me some more HP to the motor.

I still want to do a 5mge in my truck but worried about the 5mge motor being alot heavier than the 22re.
Right now my weight distribution is centered pretty well running a g54 transmission in it.
If I had a supra motor I imagine it would be nose heavy because of the addional weight.
That's another reason why I am concidering building a 22re and not putting a 5mge into it.

I did 30 over on mine. Didn't notice a whole lot of difference. EB's RV head and cam made a difference though

You should read through this post about the 7mge swap... I believe I remember reading that once the swap was done, there was only an additional 30 pounds of weight! I might have read that on Marlin's Forum where the swap has been documented as well...

Machine work alone will not do much for you. Now if you overbore, blueprint, higher compression pistons, strocker, cam, OS valves, port and polish, ignition, header, and carb you will see an increase and you will also lose reliability and longivity of engine life and it is still a 22r!!!!!
