What are your rules regarding modified smog systems (nuttered, MC2100, ...ETC)

"Zero Tolerance" meaning you better NOT have moded anything. They hook up to your computer system now, with the sniffer in the tail pipe then run at different RPMs. Last year, the state of CT did away with the Dyno part of the test. All readings go directly to the state right from under your hood.

They're so strict here because everything runs thru CT to go north. We're just outside of NYC, about an hour out of Manhattan.

I bought a new car about 9 months ago and I think it was $65 to reg or transfer the reg. CT is the highest taxed the last I heard, income, sales and property. Emissions cost $10 per year but it's done every 2 years so $20.00.

No Inspection in Florida, unless you get stopped for smoke or something else visual.. At least that's what I'm told. Only been here for a year. New Hampshire was a real easy inspection, no sniffer and basically rubber

wow, it was free in illinois. in mexico, it costs 50 pesos (5 bucks) but my cars are so old that they are excempt from the tests, the jeep is a 76, and my mkain machine, a 1965 rambler classic is excempt from everything. a cop tried to give me a ticket for no seat belt and had to shrug his shoulders and walk away when i told him that in 65 seat belts weren't put in! rj

Gosh, it is amazing how much folks feel like you are getting impaled by having your car inspected.
Remember, there never has been a "right" to drive only privilege.

So, it has finaly caught up with Texas, I have been telling you guys for years that this will go nationwide one day.
It won't be long.

Nuttered and such has never been legal anywhere in the US.

I can only speak to Colorado on this one and you guys might suggest that us Coloradin's are bakacwards, but until we had emissions testing here, our air was foul.
I understand that a good portion of that was a result of attrition, older cars getting crushed and being replaced by newer cleaner cars (you know feedback 4.2s). But never the less we breath cleaner air here for it, weather someone blew up their old car and bought a new one or they bought a newer car because they their older one failed. Who cares, it worked.

I can see it always being legal to do engine conversions, provided you go the same or UP in technology, examples:
In Colorado, you can't install an 72 SB chevy in an 84 Jeep and pass.

Only newer engines with newer induction/pollution equipment.
How it is determined is to go through a recert test at a health department garage. These are not revenue generators, they are funded by state tax $. They have techs that HELP you get your rig so it complies.
When I do engine conversions they do the recerts so my customers can go anywhere and pass a test and as far as I know even CA.

Good for Texas!
Just wait, those test parameters will get tougher.

In Manitoba, which is across the border north of North Dakota there are no emissions testing of any kind yet but usually as the U.S. goes so do we a few years later. So far the biggest thing here is muffler repair shops are supposed to leave the catalytic converter in the vehicle but many will cut it out and put a straight pipe thru to the muffler. The police will pull 4 wheelers over if the wheels stick out of the wheelwells or if it is obvious you have modified the suspension. Any vehicle under 100 inches wheelbase has the wheel width from mid tire to mid tire measured, cut in half and that figure (on my CJ7 it,s approx 32") is used against the highest part of the frame, usually over the rear wheels. If the frame top is higher than that and they will include body lifts your jeep is taken off the road. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/barf.gif" alt="" /> Oh yeah handguns are pretty much illegal here unless your a cop or criminal and you have to register rifles with the gov,t.

I wasn,t to clear on that, what I meant was the measurement from the middle of the front tire on the drivers side to the middle of the front pass side and then halved.
