Any body done this? Iv'e got access to a good v6 engine, trans, & transfer case and a less than healthy 4 cyl in my 87raider. Any tips? What about the fuel pump? I've read the tanks won't swap, what about the hanger sender assembly?

Thanks for the help.

Dave

Roll Me Over
Different electronics, wiring harness, fuel system, air intake, front brakes, motor mounts, etc...

Easier to get a running V6 rig than convert a 4 cyl rig

I know they don't swap from a LWB to a SWB, but are you sure that you couldn't swap one from a SWB 3.0L into the Raider?

The V6 Trucks have a larger tank, and are coil sprung.. different frames and tanks do not interchange <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> I already looked into it.

Darnit! That throws a monkey wrench into the equation on my V6 swap. Oh well, I'll have to figure out a way to frankenbuild something up in the tank since I need high pressure for SFI.

Body Damage is Cool
I guess it's do-able, but other than the motor mounts bolting right up, is no different than swaping to a 4.0L Ford, a 4.3L Chevy, or 3.9L Dodge. All electrics fuel system, trans, tranfer case, and driveshafts have to be created, or swapped from a running vehicle.

3.0 into a SWB:

Drive shafts dont need to be made and there is a factory EFI harness availible.

The down side is it may be harder to find a good 3.0 and a rebuild is typicly more expensive.

A good 3.0 in a SWB is a nice package... So is a 4.3 or a turbo 2.6 or a.......

GM 3100 SFI (at least I hope so. Most of the parts are gathered)

What about the fuel pump?

Just use an aftermarket in-line electric fuel pump. I still have my mechanical pump, but I also have an in-line electric pump mounted back near the tank. Helps prevent vapor-lock on my rig at high altitude.

For fuel injection the Starion pump is a decent choice. Its an external pump with good volume and pressure (55 psi is no problem).

I just finished putting one in.
