For those of you who are running an automatic with doubled up T-cases, do you even wind up using both low ranges at the same time for "stupid low"??? If so, what for, what kind of obsticles, and what's the reasoning?

Thanks!

I don't know if you're spefically asking about doubled isuzu tcases w/ automatics (don't think this has been done), but there are plenty of people out there running double cases behind auto's.

however, be forewarned, such a crawl ratio in an automatic, you won't be able to stop, it will crawl through the brakes (maybe not with pinion brakes). you'll want a manual valve body so you can shift in and out of gear to come to a stop.

Just had to chime in. Hell I can barely stop my trooper in standard 4-low. With the front hubs unlocked and in 4-low makes for some fun traffic squealing. I know I know, not good for the truck, but it's fun for a little squeak here and there ::chuckle::. Well time to go do my brake job smile.

I'm running an AW4, Klune-V (4:1) and a Dana 300 (2.6:1) in my Amigo. Stupid low with an automatic acts much like stupid-low with a manual. Once the gearing gets so low, there's not a whole lot of load on the torque converter that it slips all that much.

When it was behind the 2.6, I used stupid-low quite a bit in Moab. That may have been just because it was new, but I did find I liked it for several types of obsticles.

With the 3800 SC motor, I only used it once or twice. The 3800 just has a lot more idle and near-idle torque that I didn't need it so much. Where it does work well is anywhere you want to go really slow and have good traction. Golden Crack is a good example. I was able to idle through without dropping into the crack, or bouncing off the bumper pulling up and out.

A small boulder field is another good place. It let's you go slow and smooth over the boulders. Where it's not so useful is with larger ledges where you need a little momentum and/or wheel speed. If you don't have traction to crawl over something, then the double-low will only hinder you as you can't get the wheel speed needed to get up and over a ledge.

Body Damage is Cool
So the manual valve body would also enable you to stay in first gear instead of automatically shifting into 2nd, correct?

when looking for a container to hold drained brake fluid, find a container that is different from the beverage you are currently consuming.

Yes the MVB will alow you to hold it in any gear. If 1st gear is to low you can hold it in 2nd..

Later,
Daniel
