metallic clink accelerating from stop #654056 10/07/05 04:04 PM

Occasionally, I hear a metallic clink when I accelerate from a stop. Typically, it happens after I've rolled a few feet. Sometimes I hear it when I back out of the garage too. Doesn't do it all the time in either case.

Where/what should I look for?

This truck has had an easy life. No towing and no off-roading to speak of. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shame.gif" alt="" /> 91,000 miles.

Could it have any relation to the rear axle seal leak (which I still haven't fixed, but plan to fix with the steering relay rod recall).

Body Damage is Cool

Probably just your driveline binding a smidge... Mine's made that same sound for the past 50k mi. Anyone else wanna chime in with something different?

Rear axle seal leak--gear oil---diff---you get the picture?
Also a reminder to check the axle breather, as if it's clogged, the gases can't escape; then the seals pop. Typical.

Also inspect/grease your ujoints.

Thanks. I checked that breather just now. See the axle seal post for more info.

I see the general picture, but am curious if that "tink" is a msg I need to pay attention to.

The truck has always had some driveline play in that when you put it in drive, you have to wait for the 2nd bump before accelerating or you'll get some driveline snatch.

Is that normal behavior for other 4wd T100s with auto?

Edit: BTW, I grease the driveline every 7500 to 15k miles. All 11 zerks! (there's another msg floating around here that discusses the # of zerks to hit on a grease job).

mine does the clink every so often when shifting from reverse to drive, ive found its probably just the driveline, other possibilities discussed in the past are a loose pinion nut...
