Getting the Wheeling Fever
I recently installed a rear axle (from a Raider Parts truck I have), which by the way has the Limited Slip option. However, it raised thje rear of the truck up. I decided to install the wheels/tires that were on the Raider to take advantage of the 'height' increase. I have yet figured out how to raise the front of the truck up. Here is a picture of the truck. Will I be able to level out the truck by doing JUST the torsion bar adjustment? Do I tighten the 'BOLT', or loosen it? Thanks in advance. Rob

Yep, tighten them. Don't use impact tools. Use only hand tools.

You'll need a 17mm socket, ratchet and a 17mm wrench.

Put the wrench on the nut on top (you don't need to hold it, it'll get stopped by something on the bottom of the truck) and turn the bolt with the socket/ratchet. Try to count how many times you turn the bolt. Match that number on the other side.

Remember to take your wrench off the bottom of the truck when you are done. I always forget. I've always found it the next time I put the truck on the hoist <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

If you test drive it afterward and the ride seems really harsh, back off each bolt about 2 1/2 turns and re-test.

There should be 2 nuts on the top of the cross-member. The second one serves as a jam nut. Use 2 wrenches and loosen the top nut several turns so it's out of the way. Then you can hold the lower nut with a wrench while you turn the bolt. When you have it where you want it, tighten the top nut against the lower nut.

As long as there is a little space between the upper bumpstop and the control arm you're ok. The FSM calls for specific measurements from the lower bumpstop to the frame horn but that's a tough way to measure. Use a 5/16" or 3/8" bolt and tighten the left side until the bolt will just clear between the upper bumpstop and the control arm - then do the same thing on the passenger side. You'll find that the left side has now changed, so lower it until you can clear the bolt again and recheck the passenger side. I like to set mine up so the driver side is 1/4" higher than the passenger side to allow for driver weight loading when there's no passenger.

If you still need additional height you can shave the bumpstops a little. An easy way to shave them equally and with a good cut is to first remove them from the control arms, screw them to a board and run them through a table saw with the saw fence as a guide - then they'll all be the same.

After you have the height adjusted, you'll need to check the front end for correct camber setting because any change in the torsion bars changes the camber.

Mine doesn't have jam nuts. No suprise, someone probably took them off to use as a spacer for one of the two bellhousing bolts that were on the truck when I bought it. Neither bolt was correct. One was about 6" long with about 5 nuts stacked on it to take up the extra space and the other one was entirely the wrong size and thread pitch, crossthreaded and only held in by one thread (that the engine threads cut into the bolt when it was forced in).

But I digress...

Well, I turned both BOLTS an equal amount. I can see from the thread where the bolts are, that I've raised it about 3/4 of an inch on the 'BOLT'. Does this translat to 3/4 of an inch in the front? Here's an AFTER picture:
