Hello I'm new here and wondering if you guys could give me some expert advices. I have 91 Trooper(gen 1) and just bought 88 Montero with 2.6L 4 cylinders. My trooper has 3 inch lift with 32 inch tires with american racing black rims. I'm wondering if those wheels and tires will fit my montero as they both have 6 lugs. Right now montero is stock but I'm planning on lifting 2 to 3 inches as I do enjoy little off roading in NorthEast. Does anyone have any good advices to how to lift my montero? It's very identical to my trooper as it also has IFS with torsion bar. I'm planning on just crank up the torsion bars (and fliping a ball joint as I did to my trooper)and add shackles in rear but having trouble finding a place to buy those shackles and information on how many turns does torsion bars require to raise an inch? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

First of all, welcome to the forum. You can cranck the torsion bars and the max you can achieve is 1.5" to 2". As fopr the rims hey woill fit with no problems since they share the same bolt pattern as well as Toyota(with 6 lugs of course)I am not sure though if the tires will rub but one of the other guys can answer that.

Ball joint flip on a Gen I is a tall order as one of them is pressed in. Also consider add-a-leafs. Depending on your style of driving, you may find the longer shackles drag at times.

If you install Gen 2 upper control arms, you should be able to do a ball joint flip...

Regarding the rims: make sure the center bore of the rims will fit the fronts. They need to be something like 4.25" for the hub-locks to fit through. I think Toyota's are smaller.
I'm running 33x12.5 tires on 15x8 4.25 backspace -19 offset if I remember correctly.

If the black wheels are the steel wagon wheel types then I'm pretty sure they will fit.
FWIW, I believe the trooper's front hubs (depending on model/yr) are also smaller since the snowflake wheels which came on isuzu's don't fit over our front hubs.

I am not sure though if the tires will rub but one of the other guys can answer that. im running 32x11.5's on the stock aluminum rims right now, still havnt done my lift... but the only rubbage is if you crank it one way or the other all the way, which you wont be doing in 4wd. btw, welcome to the wire.

Rear lift (2") Shackles (Toyota front) are available For the Gen 1 2.6 from Summit Racing I think the PN is 0084? They may still be on backorder as I have told so many about them. Bob Shaw.

... but the only rubbage is if you crank it one way or the other all the way, which you wont be doing in 4wd... Well that depends on where you're driving. I frequently crank the steering wheel all the way over in 4WD.

Thank you for the welcomes and informations guys. I have couple more questions. How many turns require to lift the IFS 2" (on torsion bars). And is it difficult to replace clutch?
