Getting the Wheeling Fever
I'm installing a new timing chain set with the metal guide. The bolts for the stock plastic guide have an unthreaded shoulder, larger diameter than the threaded part, that goes through the thick plastic guide. Do I need new bolts for the new metal guide since its a lot thinner and the mount holes are only large enough for the threaded part of the bolt to go through? I have it bolted up with the original bolts and it seems to hold fine. Any ideas?

I recall the metal guide kit I got from DOA Racing included new mounting hardware.

I did just what you did with the original bolts. The shoulder seemed to hold just fine against the metal guide, and that was about 50K miles ago.....

Thanks for the replies. It looks like the original bolts will work OK.

I ran into the same problem, and used the stock bolts. It's held up just fine for several years now. But it would probably be best to use the proper size and grade bolt and some locktight.

I put it back together with the orignal bolts. Hopefully I won't have any problems. Its nice not to hear the sound of the timing chain eating its way through the cover anymore!
