My 88 montero is in need of replacing clutch as it is slipping really bad. I'm also planning on putting 32 x11.5 tires. I was told I should get heavy duty clutch set but not sure what to go with...any recommandations?

I absolutely love my CenterForce DF in my 87. I am totally bummed that I had the stealer put an OEM in my 95 before I could get to it myself. The CF takes a little muscle, but I am very happy with the way if shifts. A very solid feel that I can shift very smoothly.

I was going to order beck/arnly then I found out about Hays Super Brute Clutch kit. They are supposely much better at slightly more price. I got ordered it today for $180 including shipping. Have you guys heard about Hays clutch kits? Part number is 90-600. My mechanic friend tells me I'll need heavy duty clutch to handle bigger tires (32x11.5).

the problem with some of the big clutchs(center force) is they dont like to be sliped.they are engaged or not.and some off road situations need that cluch to be sliped.

The guy at the 4x4 store where I ordered mine from says the CF on his supercharged Yota has been great. Since I haven't been on the trails yet with mine, I can't comment first hand. I know the Quest guys aren't thrilled with them. But I'm pretty sure those are high RPM dumps at the strip.

Better throw in my "for what it's worth" here.
In 17 years, I've replaced the clutch twice. Once because it needed it and the second because I was installing a new engine and thought it folly to do so without a new clutch. I went OE both times and haven't regretted it.
Keep in mind that I don't do a whole lot of heavy wheeling - mostly dirt and mud. And, I'm pretty easy on a clutch, choosing to coast rather than downshift to dump speed; few high-rev clutch dump situations (note I wrote "few" <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />); and not much clutching in a higher gear when a lower one will do.
87 Montero, bought new, by me - 88/89 intercooled Starion Turbo engine- with awesome audio.
