Getting the Wheeling Fever
Just returned from a weekend jaunt (approx 245 miles each way,) from our Valley home in Mesa Az, to our vacation place in the White Mountains. Our 03 5M, V-6, 4x4, Extra Cab TRD with topper was hauling about 250 lbs of dogs (4 Bull Terriers,) 335 lbs of adults (wife and me,)and around 200 lbs of inanimate cargo.

Going up the mountain, we averaged 19.675mpg. Haven't checked since we got back, but I'm guessing 21+mpg.

The interior was absolutely silent. Not a single squeak, rattle or wind leak. It makes a surprisingly capable "road car" in those mountains. Use the gearbox, and there is always more than enough power. Very accurate steering. Doesn't corner like a sports car, but it's in the front ranks of the trucks.

Best of all, the last 8 miles to our vacation place are washed out, "primative," to "worse than non existant" rocky dirt "road." Here, I like to drive at 8/10+ speeds. The truck is very controllable, but breaks loose at either end, at my whim. Extreme fun.

We bought it new in April 03, and have about 19,500 total mileage now. Only "problem" so far was a slight rattle in the dash, which dealer totally fixed on first try. In every other way, it has been absolute perfection. Keeper for life?? Most likely!

If you're averaging 10,000 miles per year, the truck may very well out live you!

Yep, its primary use is for my wife's daily commute to Boeing (about 20 miles round trip.) And she drives "very" gently. Other than that, only used for trips to "the ranch," Home Depot, or the vet. All other driving is done in the highly addictive, 04 5M Acura TL.
