This is going to be a totally newby question. What are you folks doing when you're wheeling with the air bags, nothing, removing the fuse, or is there some top secret classified way to disable them? I've never had a rig with air bags before and can't find anything in the owner's manual to cover it. I did though find how to disable the neutral safetey switch. That's a really cool feature.

I don't do any of the Real Hardcore wheeling so I am not concerned about the airbags. What is the neutral safety switch that you mentioned?

I leave them be, when I wheel, IT takes a lot of force to get them to go off, I had a head on accident 2 yrs ago in the jeep, I was sliding inthe snow, reall slow under 5mph, and a civic hit me head on, AND no air bag,,, I did happen to kill the civiv, but only bent my Lic plate,,,,
If you have after market bumpers on there its even harder to get them to go off, you need to "kink" the cross members, you need be going reall fast on trial and hit a tree or somthing for that to happen,,

Hey why kill the neut. switch??

Goose,
The neutral safety switch is what stops you from starting a manual tranny vehicle without pushing in the clutch or in an auto tranny must be in either neutral or park for starter to engage.

Only real reason I could think of for disabling would be if you wanted to install a remote start on a manual tranny vehicle.

Chris

My most accident prone friend.. a guy that has totaled every ride he has owned.. came over one day and told me his last wreck he had forgot to put on his belt and he got really bruised up.. I wired his neutral switch in series with his belt... Now HIS pickup will not start unless it is in neutral and the safety belt is latched..
He called me a few weeks after I did that for him and told me his truck would not start and he had put the battery charger on it and after a few minutes he remembered the belt thing I had done and swore at himself a few times!
He has not called since.

Both the manual and the video that came with my Rubi tells the owner how to disable the feature but it is referred to as the clutch safety switch. To override the system you must insert a 10amp fuse in slot 28 in the under the hood fuse block. Since I feel that this so called we're going to save you from BigJim's friend syndrome is just plain dumb I proceeded to insert the 10amp fuse into slot 28. Hey hey hey, that was too easy. Wait a minute, why does that fuse fit so loosely. What! There are no contacts in slot 28. That had me so upset that I had to yell at my wife. Once she hugged me and thanked me for sharing with her we went to the dealership to see what we can glean from their vast knowledge of Jeeps. It was like they had been flashed by the Men in Black. Nothing but blank faces staring back at us. Am I destined to spend my life jamming the clutch peddle though the firewall just to start the jeep? Talk to me Zubi, what did you do?

If you are determined to disable the switch I am sure it would be on the pedal assembly itself... It is probabley OPEN when the clutch is not pushed and closed to allow the start.. Just close the wires and you will have it disabled.
Might even be possible to wire-tie or tape the switch. BUT if you ever click the remote and it IS IN GEAR... You might maim or Kill someone. I wouldn't advise it.

I was 10 years old my brother was about 7 at the time, we had a load of firewood loaded on back of truck, me an my dad was off loading firewood an was stacking some on the porch for a short walk for wood, My brother in a bored state of mind figured he would turn the key an see what would happen, well at this instant the truck jump the bed up on the porch an struck a column which dropped the roof on us in the snap of a finger, we could have easily died because of this hazard, only do this mod. if you plan on keeping keys in pocket, a small child will start that jeep an run off a cliff or in to traffic an kill himself or someone else.

My cj7 has the tf999 auto. I have disabled the neutral saftey switch on it so it will start in gear, that is a good feature when on the trails and you stall going up something. Having said that, I always put my foot on the brake pedal when starting in my garage or a parking lot and I never lend the vehicle to anyone.Someone who didn,t know about it could cause an accident or kill someone and if I ever sell it it will get hooked up again.

Toyota's come with a clutch start cancel switch stock.
It's good if you want to use your starter to drive your truck (if your motor goes) or to drive it up something... say the engine is apart, you can still move the truck...
