Can anyone tell me how to remove the temp face palcte to seeif I have a disconnected or burned out bulb on my '89 montero? I tried to remove the housing that surrounds the cassette/radio, clock, lighter and temp panel but can only find two screws at the bottom ob both sides. These screws don't release the entire housing.

The console has two screws at the top. One in each corner.

All that panel is lit by one bulb, I think, and it uses fiber optic light hoses to take the light to the faceplate. You have to take scads of stuff loose to get it all the way out...

Oh man, I was looking forward to an easy fix for this. My panel light doesn't work either and it's a pita in the dark. The lights at the ends of the adjustment stalks work, but I can't see the panel. Guess I will have to stay with using the dome light to see or maybe keep a flashlight handy!

But I don't think you have to take it all the way out...

I figured it out. Two screws at the top and four screws at the bottom (2 on each side after you remove the small pop out covers. You need to make sure to remove the plastic plate that surrounds the 4WD shifter, since this will facilitate the removal of the temp/radio/lighter/clock unit. Once removed , pull carefully forward and look for the wire that leads to the white casing in the middle. Pull the black socket out and replace with a Sylvania 74 bulb ( avialable at Kragen's for $2.49). FYI the local Dealer wanted to charge me $22 for the bulb and $150.00 to replace it !!! What a scam I'll try to attach some pics if I can. The whole job should take less than hour.

Cool!! I am going to get in there and get that thing fixed too! Thanks for figuring it out Dang stealers. I know they need to make a profit on parts, but a mark-up that much is criminal
