Mudrunner
I'm moving to the mountains, I will live at ~8300 feet and drives over 10,000' will be common. I have an 85 4runner that is all stock (including exhaust) and I want to get shafted for those drives up the passes. I will be doing about 90% highway, 9% offroad, and 1% city so excelent low-end torque is not crucial (I have a tcase doubler for offroad ). I am just wondering what would be a good cam to give me power on the highway and won't kill gas mileage. I usually like to run it at 3800 to 4500 rpms. The engine seems to stop making strong power above 5000 so I rarely take it there. Any advise is greatly appreciated.

PS - exhaust will get done before the cam goes in.

I like my TRD Level 1 cam for that kind of situation:

Pulls really strong from about 3800 on up. Didn't seem to lose anything at the low end over stock. It'll pull 55-65 MPH in 3rd gear quite happily up most grades.
