Getting the Wheeling Fever
|
Hey guys, hopefully someone can shed some light on this for me. Rebuidling ps pump on '94 V6 and having trouble getting pulley off of pump. Removed the 17mm bolt and tried tapping pulley from back, etc. Next I tried a regular gear puller with the 2 arms around back edges of pulley. Well this started to bend the pulley.
So I rented a power steering pump pulley removal tool, but on the Yota's there is no raised lip near the threads (center)of the pulley for the tool to grab onto. Any ideas on how to get this pulley off the shaft ? I can't even get the pump off the truck, because a long bolt can't be pulled out until pulley is removed.
Thanks

I used a brass hammer and a pry bar behind the pulley. Cannot get good hits on the shaft but the small hits and the prying popped it off. goto autozone and get the rental tool. it will save you tons of time. or just bring in in there and do it there on there table vise like i always do On the V-6, you cannot get the pump off with out taking the pulley off unless you want to sawzall the shouldered bolt off. Those bolts are not cheap and it is a dealer item.

Oops, yeah I tried a 3/8 short extension and thing still wouldn't move. Alot of red colored rust arount threaded shaft, etc. I finally just put the 2 prong gear puller on it again and kept cranking it down.
It finally popped off and I was able to bend the two areas on the pulley back. Put it all together and it doesn't wobble, so I think I'm alright Thanks for the reply
