Whats the horsepower difference between the deckplate mod vs. K&N filter? #667241 11/17/05 05:45 AM

I have had the deck plate mod on my s.c. 97 Runner and am replaceing my air box with the K&N kit. The air intake opening looks to be the same size on both the deckplate and K&N. The only difference is that the K&N air filter is on the outside, and of course the Toyota air box with the deckplate mod has the filter inside the box.

There has been talk of people acually LOSEING HP after putting in a K&N kit.

The beauty of the Deck-plate mod, is you can cover it back up if need, (i.e. water-fording)

The deck-plate mod will probably yeild as much power as the K&N kit.

If not, I know you will get better HP per buck doing the deck-plate mod.

Personally, I don't see the justification of forking out $200+ dollars for a kit that will gain you a few HP, as opposed to doing somthing that costs you almost nothing, that'll give you the same gains.

Your choice, but that's just my .02 cents...

I agree with you about spending the money on the K&N, but the reason for me getting the K&N is because I broke my original airbox and figured that to replace it would be just as much money if not more.

Look for one out of a wrecked 4Runner... check some of your local salvage yards. They should be able to hook you up at a very reasonable price.

Good Luck!

will someone direct me to instructions to perform a deckplate mod if possible? (2002 runner) I have looked here but have found nothing. I appreciate it.
