Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hello. Because of this post elsewhere:

Quote
I almost had an accident because of the TRACS kicking when I pulling out into a traffic making a left. I gave a good amount of gas, and it wasn't really even close to spinning out, but the VSC kicked in, reduced the power, and it was almost as though it stalled in the road for a second, as the oncoming car almost t-boned me. I really wish I could turn it off and not have to deal with a feature put in place for soccer moms.

..and experiencing it myself, is there a was to temporarily disable the traction control such as you can do with a Lexus IS. Here's how:

This makes sense when you think about it. Cars have computers and computers have always had hidden Easter eggs and cheat codes, so it was inevitable that someone would find a cheat code hidden inside a car. Case in point: hereÆs way to disable the traction/skid control systems called VDIM on the Lexus IS:

ôstart the car with the parking brake on à.then foot brake twiceà.(keep the foot brake down)à.then parking brake twice (keep it down )and repeat till skid light is on the dashà..it will reset when you restart the carö

Apparently, this disables everything but the ABS. Source: VWVortex Forums via Digg

I know of ways to disable it but it also disables other things like antilock brakes. It really isn't safe for on road to disable it because it is part of a 3 way system between antilock brakes, VSC, and Trac. Lose one, lose them all.

That said there is a very long thread over at yotatech that discusses this topic. I haven't checked it in awhile and they may have found a way to do without affecting the other systems.

I would give that a try.

Body Damage is Cool
Read away. Here is the thread I started last year. I found an easy solution to the issue - works perfect and is about as simple as you can get.

Thanks, I'm on the second page..... I really would like to see a software solution as above - you know, a Lexus is a Toyota isn't it?

I am sold on ABS, I don't want that disconnected as it saved my life once (stupid going 110mph around a corner and a car pulled out - swerved to avoid with brake foot on floor - half inch both sides clearance from curb and grille of other car - no skids no slides just complete steering control)
