Four Wheel Drive question #668228 11/19/05 01:10 PM

Good Morning,
When the four wheel drive is engaged on my pickup and while slowing down/coasting under 5 mph, something seems to be binding. The truck will stop without using the brakes.Does this sound normal? The truck runs perfectly in 2 wheel drive.I have had this truck for a few years and have never noticed this before.
Any suggestions would be helpful
Thank you

Are you on-road or off-road while doing this? Going straight or turning? The 4WD systyems on our trucks does not have a center differential to allow the front and rear driveshafts to turn at different speeds... and therefore should not be used on high-traction surfaces such as pavement. Even if you are on a lower-traction surface, you can experience some binding with the wheels turned if you are not giving it gas.

Also (in line with strawmyers post -- if your front and rear tires are not matched for rolling circumference (different sized, air-pressure, wear) the non-differentiated t-case can also show some bind ...

Did you pull both drive shafts and check the u-joints?
Mine where bad and did that.Grease them when you have them out, unless your grease gun fits in with them bolted on.
