If you'd ever been stalked by one, you wouldn't have a live and let live attitude about them.

I have been stalked by a cougar. It sucks.

I will shoot on sight and shovel and shut up if one is brazen enough to let me see it.

I have only seen one.It was about 75 yards away. But I wouldnt think twice about dropping one if it got to close for comfort.I normally wheel with my .22 mag Long Rifle.Take it camping in the high country with me as well.better to be safe than sorry. But thats just the opinion of someone who was raised a hunter.I noticed it is kind of looked down upon here in cali.

I could of swore Ive seen mountain lions here in PA, everyone tells me they have been exterminated in PA. I kinda think they are making a comeback here since I swear Ive seen them more than once while offroading. I heard stories about when williamsport was capitol of the logging industry about people being killed by mountain lions all the time. Scary stuff

Come on guys!

That's a kitten (220lbs!)

A real lion weighs 500+ lbs!

[Linked Image]

Why kill it?

rather ban cars, they kill thousands per year, all over the world!

Only joking! It all boils down to what you are used to. Here in Africa we are more used to lions, hippos (most prolific man-killer of all mammels), crocs etc. than you guys, I suppose.

When visiting our local zoo the other day, I noted the size difference between the Mountain Lion and our African lion (Panthera Leo).

Thet all look better alive than dead.

Your saying that because they have a natural instinct to kill in order to survive that they should be eliminated as a threat? We havent avenged our "ancestors" deaths enough with the near extinction of theirs and nearly every other species in North America by the 1950's?

Call me a bleeding heart, but they were here first, and have just as much of a right to live.

You guys are too funny! As I participate in crazy political arguments on here all the time, I understand the passion on both sides-
But come on! There's so little "wild" left in the world that even I- "right wing nut job" over here, hates to see a beautiful animal like that shot dead.
We have (nut job libs) complaining all the time up here about the Coyote and Fisher that I think some would like to see the only wildlife in zoos.

That is a great North American beast (puma) that should still be out stalking the woods and mountains of the east- I'd love to know that it is back up here. But I bet that the first time one is found in a boston suburb there will be a state of emergency declared, and the national guard will be out in force protecting little yuppies and their little yuppie children from the evil invaders.

Why not a while back I could have sworn I saw a wolf in kickapoo state park. But I just blew it off(my vision not the wolf ) as bad lighting AND A LARGE DOG. Then 2 weeks later one was captured 30 miles north of me. That is 120 miles south of Chicago.

I neither so said nor inferred same. I wouldn't shoot one unless it had lunch plans with me as the main course. We killed them off around here by cutting all the trees, thus killing off all the white tail deer, which were their main food source. I talked once to an old ranger named Sosebee who claimed to have killed the last deer in GA back around 1920. We have deer coming out our ears and into our cars now, and we could use a few eastern cougars again. I've looked for one for decades, and never seen one, but I did see a red wolf once, and mama bear and cubs (over my shoulder as I retreated post haste) in the real wilds (I don't consider bear sightings in the Smokies as the real wilds). Last I heard, the only confirmed sightings were in the FL swamps...

Far as I'm concerned, the only really dangerous animal in the woods is man. I have no need to revenge my ancestors. They won, and I really LIKE being on top of the food chain.

you know what? let's stop right there. I completely agree that there's very little "Wild" left but it's NOT the fault of Smith and Wesson... it's that gun in your pants.

Firearms don't build cities that sprawl and spread and occupy every corner of the freakin planet. It's the numbers of people who just keep spreading and building and reproducing and spreading..
[Linked Image] How many wild animals still live in Los Angeles??

You want more "WILD"? make use of the dozens of birth control products out there. Get snipped. Holster your man-cannon. for $%@#$'s sake quit making more people!!!

and yes, I have "put my money where my mouth is" in that regard. I am a terminal bud on the family tree. If you add up all the houses my children won't be living in, all the cars they won't be driving, all the garbage they won't be making, all the hamburgers they won't be eating, all the trees that won't be cut down to support their lifestyle... all because they won't exist in the first place - hell I could shoot a thousand mountain lions and still be less of a hazard to nature than anyone greedy enough to reproduce.

But, despite all that - I don't hunt. I don't fish. Barring insects, I haven't killed anything that wasn't food, threatening my food supply or safety or that of my family, nor do I ever intend to. I don't kill for "fun" or for "sport" - but I own, respect, and maintain practice with modern firearms for the same reason any of us wears a seat belt or locks our door - it shouldn't be necessary to explain one's preparation for survival.
