Gil, you know I love your VX... but I'm still going to have to rate a Rubicon as more off-road capable. I'd rate a Rubicon are more off-road capable than the Amigo as well, and I have an ARB out back and Tera Lows. Its hard to argue with lockers f/r and a 4:1 t-case.

The Rubi in that pic got hung up on his front differential on the high point between the two ruts. You and I have an advantage on that part of the trail because of the IFS... the center differential is tucked up higher, so we are less likely to get high-centered on it. Areas where ground clearance between the tires is key may allow us to show up a Rubi now and again. But as far as overall stock capability, IMHO they've got it. I still say we can run stock to stock with any other Jeep out there, though.

It all comes down to personal preference and what terrian you normally wheel on. I have both an IFS (Passport) and a solid axle (unlimited Rubicon), everything being equal minus the axle difference, neither will out do the other.

I would agree with that. I've done a bit of wheeling with a stock Rubicon when my Rodeo was on 33s and only rear locker, and I always outdid him. Now he's got a 3.5" OME lift and swaybar disco's, and its almost even. There are spots where either rig has an advantage. My tires (Trxus and the old Cooper STTs) always give a better bite than the stock MT/Rs. Especially when it gets muddy. When he gets some better tires, I'd say its even.

Now if you were to compare a Rubicon Wrangler to a theoretical Rubicon edition Amigo. That would be really interesting, I'd like to see that match up.

I'm surprised your Trxus out do the MT/R's. I believe the MT/R's for the first 10,000 to 15,000 miles are unbeatable. After that they suck. Back to the original issue. I'm sure that it's not as pronounced on a regular TJ but that darn center belly pan on the unlimited sure gets you hung up alot. It definitely needs the 3" lift at a minimum. I also never, ever go back to unslectable lockers afetr having this thing. Selectable ROCKS!!! BTW, the Passport is for sale in the for sale section.

IMO, MT/r's are more of a "west coast" tire. They are awesome in rock, but they are not as hot in the mud. I know a number of guys that were quite displeased w/ perfromance of the 31-35" MT/r's (steep hills w/ mud). For some reason, guys w/ 37" MT/rs seem to better in mud.

ON the Rubicon, I think it flat out smokes any other mass market vehicle (isuzu or other). A rubicon on 35s is easily built and nearly unstoppable. Nothing else compares!

Yep I've seen MT/Rs work well in rocks, but that ain't what we got local. Its all trails, hills, stream crossings, and mud. And the mt/r's pack up easily.

We have noticed the low hanging transfercase skid. He wants to get the nth degree tucker, but its $$$.
