How do I identify a toyota high angle cv and a low angle cv?
What years and what aplications (front/rear) do I look or ask for?
Are there tell tale shapes, dimples, notches, etc. I can look for?
Need to find a couple high angle cv's to use for the rear of a two piece shaft and a spare.

AFAIK Toyota never used CVs on the rear from the factory. The higher angle CVs were used on solid axle front ends (79-85) and the lower angle CVs were used on IFS front ends (86-95). I do not know how to visibly tell the difference between the two, but you can modify an IFS CV for more travel.

AFAIK Toyota never used CVs on the rear from the factory. 3rd gen 4Runners (96-02) had CV rear shafts. I think they are about 1" too short for 1st gen 4Runners though. They measure about 49-51" depending on auto or manual trans. manual are longer.

Many of the 2-piece rear shafts use CV joints at the top of the lower half. Easy way to check the angle range of the CV is with an angle finder. The low angle CVs bend about 25 degrees to either side, the high angle ones about 35 degrees.

So there is no "telltale" sign to look for on the cv, I just have to carry around a protractor or an inclinometer. Right?

The high angle ones are getting harder to find. I used a IFS modified front on my rear two piece. Here is how I modified it and am getting about 40 degrees. http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/tech/cvmod/

OK, here is the newest brain storm (number 6, I think). Dave (at Marlin Crawler) and I came up with this idea. I need a carrier flange off of a turbo drive shaft. They are bigger diameter. I then should be able to drill out the bolt holes in a v6 front shaft CV, mod for increased flex, and run it for a rear. Should work.
Anybody know where I can find a flange? Anybody done a two piece to one piece conversion?

New intel. Don't think the "turbo" plan will work. But we are pretty sure a Taco 4x4, 2.7L x-cab driveline has the flange I need.
Anybody got one of those?
