Getting the Wheeling Fever
Just thought of something that might help, glowlugs for the 223 are low voltage,But if you get glowplugs for I believe it was a 6.2(I havn't had to buy any for 10 yrs so I forget either a 6.2 0r 6.5)They are full 12 volts and identical.A continous duty sel.and a push button is what I have been using.

I'm wondering which C223 plugs are low-voltage units. The glow system I bought (for a 1986 Trooper TD) employs 2 relays, one which supplies straight 12V to the plugs and another which sends the current through a large resistor first, depending on the temp sensor I believe. Is it a change between models?

I believe they all had the low voltage GP, rated for 5 volts. They use these for quick heat, as of course heating a 5v heater with 12v would do.
The two relays work to give the GPs 12v for a very brief time, a time determined by the GP controller and an engine temp sensor, then less than 12v through the second relay and resistor for a longer period. This is the proper method. I use a direct method where I control the single relay I use with a push button mounted on the dash. I give them a 3 second count to heat them. Yes, they can be easily burned out if you wait much longer (been there, done that too many times <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" />).
It's good to know the V8 uses the same GPs, as I find the 4 cyl ones are getting hard to find around here.

Ahh, I see. I should take a look at the controller box operational diagram sometime.. just looked at the wiring.
