Getting the Wheeling Fever
Well my new (reman) clutch came today (Toyota). I pulled the disc out the box to look at it.
There is not that much friction material on that thing is there? It just looks like it should be thicker.

Nothing wrong with buying from a chain parts house....as long as you specify what you are wanting. If you just call up to order a clutch disc, you will get whatever the flavor of the month is. IE: Perfection Hytest, SPX....Gomers Clutch Stuffs.

Last few clutch assemblies I needed for various projects (and 1 disk) I have purchased from JTOutfitters and couldnt be happier with the parts. Of course I always confirm my order over the phone so that we are clear about which "ASCO" I am wanting. Price-wise...nobody closer with any discount can beat their price or service for the brands I want.

no kidding, and better yet, my discount is at carquest so it's basically all good quality stuff unlike schmucks.

maybe i'll go with the reman in the dd, save my money for a ceramic clutch for the yellow pile

I put the ceramic clutch that Marlin sells in my 4Runner and drove on it for about 5K miles. I used the 1200 lb pressure plate and I think the ceramic is too grabby for the street. It is either engaged or not, you can't really fudge the clutch with that friction disc. I had to pull the transmission again to rethread one of the starter mounting holes and I decided to put the regular friction disc back in. I am much happier with the set up now. I would recommend the higher spring rate with the standard friction disc for daily driving. That ceramic disc is better for trail only trucks.

This truck is going to be a dd. So the stock clutch will be fine. I dont know of any off-road spots in Connecticut.

I would like to build a 1982 shortbed Toyota pickup strictly for off-roading (anybody selling one cheap ) I've looked at three trucks in the last year and they were trashed (none had a bed) I would of bought all three, to build one, but I live in an apartment and I don't think the landlord would be to thrilled about that.
