Getting the Wheeling Fever
So there you are out on the trail with wet, muddy boots, trying to start on a slippery slope, but there are three pedals, and you only have two feet. So here are a couple on cheap and easy cool tricks:

Go to your local dollar store or office supply, and get a card of flat head thumb tacks. Take off the brake and clutch pedal pads, and stick the tacks thru from the back. The points should just barely stick thru, just enough to hold the soles of your boots enough to keep from slipping. I put one in the middle, and six around it. Works great.

Now go to your local bicycle store, and get a hand brake lever for a BMX bike. Make sure you get the one for the rear brake so the cable is long enough. Now attach the lever to your shifter with the lever sticking straight up and facing forward. Attach the cable to the bottom of the dash with a line clamp, and the cable to the ball on the end of the throttle cable where it comes thru the throttle lever at the top. One of those little ball chains with the pocket clasp works great. You may have one as a key chain. Or you can try your local accessory shop. We have a place here that installs Line-X, tints windows, and installs aftermarket cruise controls. They have lots of left over parts from the installation kits. And just like that, you have a hand throttle.

The reason I say a BMX lever is because they are small, and come in all kinds of cool anodized colors.

Ditch the rubber covers and weld spots on your pedal faces or drill and tap the pedals for some Phillips head machine screws.

Getting back on topic: I did a similar thing for a hand-throttle. Overseas, my rig is equipped with a dial-type throttle but here in the states they aren't, however, they're still outfitted with the associated brackets. I picked up an old-style Shimano gear-shift lever (the non-clicking kind) for a ten-speed and rigged it to the built-in hook-ups. Works like a champ.
