Getting the Wheeling Fever
Can I take a flywheel from another engine, (same type-22RE) have it resurfaced, and put it in my truck when I do the clutch. I don't want to have any vibration issues.

I could use the lift at work on Saturday, but to pull the flywheel out and then wait to have a machine shop resurface it, would eat up a lot of time. I don't want the truck still sitting on the lift Monday.

This Spring I'll be pulling the engine/transmission out to fix other items (clutch can't wait) so I could put the original flywheel back in if needed.

I believe there was a change to the clutch assembly in '89, then again in '93. I'm not sure on the flywheel though. I "think" it's larger diameter from '93 on.

Yes. The flywheel is balanced seperately from the crankshaft mass.

no significant changes in flywheels as far as i can tell. the bigger clutch(same size as V6/turbo) came along in '92, pretty sure the only difference is that the flywheel has a larger wear spot(step) than previous years. pretty sure any good machine shop could do this work.

you'll want a step of about .020-026 or so on there for proper clutch feel. a flat flywheel won't work well with our trucks...

My truck is a 1989 4WD, the flywheel that I'm going to use is from a 1986 4WD. I will probably put my original flywheel back in when I do the rest of the repairs.

Just checked car-part.com. Looks like anything with a 2.4L 4Cyl will work fine. They show 1978 Celica, all the way through 1993 Pick-up as the same Flywheel

Also, Use RED Lock-tite on those bolts too

I will use Loctite (blue) on all the bolts, and torque the pressure plate bolts. I'm going to throw a rear main at it while I'm in there. This is just so I could drive the truck through the winter. (clutch slips bad)
DD buildup coming this spring...

actually any 20R/22R/22RE(heck, could even go back further) flywheel will work. i do know that toyota started using a different part number in the mid 80s sometime, but the old part number was used for 2wd trucks. despite the clutch differences, the new part number didn't change at the changover year('92)

i'd just put a little blue loctite on your flywheel bolts before you torque them.
