Well i talked my parents into turning our '88 Trooper into a trail pig <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/oink.gif" alt="" />,
it's not a daily driver anymore, and spends most of it's time sitting, mainly because my brother doesn't drive it much

Here's the list of stuff thats going to be done:
Lift-3" or so
Tire/rims- 31x10.50R15 BFG AT's on 15x7 rock crawlers
everything resembeling carpet will be torn out, and bed liner put in it's place
rear "cargo management system" <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
"real" bumpers
Cargo rack for stuff
CB radio

rock sliders may come later, but this thing's going to be a trail rig, not a rock crawler

paint job's shot, and it already has a number of dents, and the skid plates are well used <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> so it should take on it's new full time role very well <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

It may also get a K&N filter and a Delta cam in the future as well.

I can't wait to get started on this thing!!!! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Get 'em anyway...it only take one time bashing your rocker panel on a rock, ledge, log or stump to render your doors ineffective...seriously. And you can use them to help get up into the rig, too.

I say to just wheel it and have fun. If you find you need boulder bars, then go for it. I have not used mine often, but when they were used they were very handy for pivoting around boulders on.

If its gonna be mostly trail, why not put a bigger more agressive tire on? I vote 33" bias TSL <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" />

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I agree with Rodeo Guy. Definitely put some bigger and way more aggressive meats on it. I DD 33" swampers and can tolerate them so i'd recomend those especially if youre only driving it every so often. You'll have fun. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

We'll see about the 33's, going to try the 31's first because I can get them super cheap ($50 each)

I'll be posting pics here real soon, of it in it's stock configuration, I'll add pics as stuff gets done to it.

Oh and keep an eye out for pics of my Luv too, TB crank is going to happend tommorow or Fri <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> and while I'm at it I need to replace a split CV boot on the passanger side <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" /> man thats going to be a PITA <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/barf.gif" alt="" />

Not as big of a PITA as you would think. If its anything like my trooper, it should be pretty simple. I have to tackle one in a couple of days myself.

I would deffinitely second what has been said about tires. Not just the size factor, but the tread factor. My bfg AT's sucked for the kind of wheeling i do. Great on road, but they are put to shame by my TSL's. I waited on a good deal and got my TSL's for about what you will pay for those AT's.

Just my .02

Understand you can put a 33x10.50 on your Trooper with no lift at all. So, I guess I would 4th or maybe 5th the larger tire idea.

Plus troopers look alittle goofy with a 3" lift and 31's. Here's a pic of mine when it was like that..... [Linked Image]

I was even running 35's with just a 3" lift for awhile.
