I'm trying to get the stupid "L" trim off my 4Runner. I've done a bunch of searches and people say it just prys off. Mines screwed on from the inside, i cant get to the screw head.

Does the whole window frame, glass and all, come off of the truck and then you unscrew the l trim?

Please help. I've gone faaaaar to long without a side window.

Ok, maybe I figured it out. I have to cut through the seal in between the fiberglass and the metal window frame, taking off the entire frame, including glass.

Its tough as hell to cut through, but if I use the heatgun I can cut right through it.

haha. Yea. Im going to have to drive the 4Runner for about 2 months since my Accord wont pass the e-check. In 10 degree weather and snow, driving on the highway, it really sucks not having a window.

Plus, I bought a house and now have a garage I can work on the truck in.

I was gonna say... to take the window out leave the truck in the sun for an hour and it will pop right out (with a big flat screwdriver or something similar).

Butyl rubber tape is supposed to be used to reinstall it... remeber the stuff has to hold the window in while your hitting bumps on the highway at 60mph smile.. dunno about rtv on that...

You got a point there!

I found some butyl tape at Smyth Automotive. It's the 3m stuff, they called it "window tape".

Does this stuff have to dry or cure or anything like that? How long untill I can drive it?

Make sure the ribbon aint to thick now....or your window trim edge will be stickin out to far. In my case I just sliced it down with a razor knife. Once seated you should be able to drive the rig as soon as you get your hands clean. Strong stuff!

Too late. The stuff was quite thick after smooshing it down. The trim does stick out a bit. Oh well. It's a trail rig for the most part.

Next step is to install the OBA and air horn, and then a flat black paint job.
