We'll I decided to do the TB crank today, and lo and behold when I pulled the passanger side wheel off I find this:

seems that the brake line bracket decided to move down south, so far down that it ripped apart my outer CV boot, fun fun, other than that it's going pretty good.

and yes I do have jack stands under there, you just can't see them in the pics

Wow I didn't realize that there was a difference between the IsuzuÆs and the Luv. I thought they where just rebadged IsuzuÆs. But the suspension looks quite a bit different than the other 1st gen i've seen.

Or is it just the early Isuzu suspension?

WAAAAAY back when in 1976 when I had a LUV I also worked for a company called Sunshine Industries out of El Cajon California. One of the products they built as a new spindle kit for the LUV. Basically it relocated the hole on the spindle and effectively gave you about a 4" lift without cranking the torsion bars. I have no idea if they are still in business or not but it may be a worthwhile search.

Additionally way back when.... I put a campershell on my LUV and cutout the seperation between the compartments. Everyone thought I was crazy and that was a stupid idea. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

And just for another tidbit of ancient history. After cutting out the compartments I renamed the LUV to L.U.V. for Little Unfinished Van.

Early (zero gen) troopers from 84-86 had that same kind of suspension. A lower control arm with a tie rod and some funky kind of link. Looks like a weak offroad setup, but come to think of it, it did win four wheeler of the year... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" /> so who knows. Rezkid, why dont you test the strength of it for us? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />.

I think they changed it all when they went to the 10 bolt fronts.

yeah my old 86 had the suspension like that. i got severe camber issues until i flipped the balljoints. you might need a spacer too if you go the full 3"

Oh it's plenty strong enough <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> I can personally atest to that <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" />

I'd love to do a bj/spacer, but the way that the bj mounts into the a-arm is super funky, just one big nut holding it in there <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> very different from the front end of my parent's '88 Trooper.

Sun Industries?? hmmm I'm gona google it to see what comes up, 4" of lift sounds really, really nice <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> and then I could do a SOA in the rear <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" /> Oh I can see the posiblities now!!!!
