Getting the Wheeling Fever
My son has an '88 Jeep Cherokee with a straight 6. I started smelling gas near the car and found gas sitting on top of the engine. It appears to be coming out of the fuel injectors where they meet the tube that goes down the top of the engine. Anybody ever experience this?

The KIA isn't as powerful as the dually, but it sure is easier to park.

Yup, it's an easy fix. The seals on the injectors are leaking. You need to unbolt the fuel rail, and replace the seals. You can get the seals from napa, kregen/checkers, autozone, ETC... When re-installing them, use a very light grease so that they will slide into place without tearing.

Body Damage is Cool
Agree with Sunder so long as it has been sitting less than a couple of days.... If it has been sitting less than that, there are a couple of other issues to contend with that may have a LOT to do with temperature.....

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Thanks for the information, guys.

It has been over a couple of days, but less than a week since it was run. Is there something special I need to do?

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I sent the jeep to a shop. I like this guy and he's done a lot of work on our cars. He says it needs three injectors, the prices seem reasonable.

In addition to all of that he says it needs an intake manifold. Any advice as to where to find one of those at a reasonable price. What should one cost?

I hate to keep pouring money into this thing, but I don't want my son back on a bicycle either.

Does it really need the injectors or JUST the seals? Why a new intake? What is wrong with that one? NEW intakes needed is very rare indeed. Thinking back I have never NEEDED a new intake on any vehicle... Find out the answers to these questions before proceeding.
He may seem reliable to you but I already don't trust him.

He said the old intake manifold was cracked. He also said that the injectors themselves were cracked, not just the seals.

I'd ask to see the crack...

There are only a couple things that will crack a manifold.
1. lot and lots of mechanical stress. You can pick up a motor by the manifold.
2. casting flaw
3. WAY over heated.

Same with an injector. Those things just don't see that kind of stress normally. I have seen cracked ones injectors, but 3?
Either your jeep has seen some serious abuse, or you mechanic likes to dish it out.

Thanks, I've already told him to go ahead with the work. I'll ask to see the replaced parts. It's a little late then, but if I'm not satisfied I'll know not to go back. It's a shame I don't know how to do more of this stuff myself.
