I've had a pretty loud engine tick with my 22re truck since I've had it. I always though it was valve tick, but after several valve adjustments I bought a Mechanics stethascope. Using this I found out that the injectors seem to be the source of the loudest tick. I figure that some tick is normal for them, but I can hear it in the cab quite well, and standing on the passenger side of the truck it is very noticable.

Is this normal? I don't know anyone else with a 22re to compare it to.... Is this a sign that they need to be cleaned/rebuilt??

hehe, I had the same problem. When I first bought my truck I kept thinking the valves were making the noise, which they do chatter a little bit. And yes it is noticeable. But you can REALLY hear these injectors, go drive around and get to like 40 or so, and let your foot off the gas slowly and you can hear the clicking fade...then if you whomp on it you can really hear them clicking.
I think I have a very teeny tiny exhaust leak forming too thats making it sound worse then it really is, so I wouldn't worry about the clicking.

i know mine are definetly louder than the valves. it is normal for these to make LOTS of noise it just wish there was a way to deaden the sound. i also just re-ringed them also but nothing...so just deal with it and turn the radio up!!

well, that's a relief. I suspected I was overreacting but wasn't sure....

So, I guess I know what I'm doing tomorrow night...installing a set of Infinity 5.25's I have laying around!!! Now, where to put them? Not much room in the reg cab....
