That should work.

Your Sportage looks exactly like mine. Same green, same lack of roof rack or tire rack. I wish I had the tire rack. I like the clean roof.

'95 Sportage 4x4 5speed SOHC bone stock, 200,000 miles and counting.
The KIA isn't as powerful as the dually, but it sure is easier to park.

Here's the one I put on mine after it rolled and I had to redo the whole roof installing some roll bars inside and all. [Linked Image]

I'm just about to make my own as well, do yours clamp inwards with much force, just sit in the "gutter" or clamp around under the gutter? I'd like to know, because for strength I may be tempted to screw them straight into the roof, considering they will be a permanent fixture. perhaps a pic of them with the door open might help??! By the way, top coloured vehicle, mines the same. There must have been a lot of this colour made. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Body Damage is Cool
Why don't you just get the factory roof rack off E-Bay and make your basket to adapt to it. This way you can take the basket on and off depending on your needs.

Too late. In my impatience I've now almost finished the job. I got some 20 year old standard vehicle gutter mount roof racks and removed the clips, tek screwed 'em straight onto the the side of the roof just behind the rubber seal above the door. The weight is supported by the gutter, the screws only stop it flying off. Got a second hand basket, about 4' x 5' which is now painted black and drying in the garage. Got the racks from my Grandad for nuthin, the rest from a recycling yard for a total of AU$36.00. Once finished I plan on possibly attempting a suspension lift, depending on my inspiration and if I can sneak it in whilst the missus isn't looking. Thanks to all of you guys for the inspiration and tips! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

How does $200 for a 2.5" suspension lift sound??? I'll be taking mine off late March when Damkia goes in for the chop of it's lifetime.

Front struts complete (1/2 hr job each side to get them in)
Rear springs
Rear shocks.

All up a 1 1/2-2 hr operation. I can mail them to you/drive up and give you a hand after the end of April.

Sounds pretty good! I need new shocks anyway, feels like a vibrator going off in the rear end at the moment. I'll talk to you in March then.... who knows , I might be moving down to the Garden State early in the year too. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
The roof rack now complete looks fabulous in black.I'll try to put pics on if I can. Everyone seems to ask but I haven't seen answers on how to stick pics onto the posts. Do you just add a URL to the post??

Reply to this post to see the "Instant UBB Code" under the text panel.

Top of the third column, left click "Image", enter image location (must be hosted on the web somewhere, try photobucket.com if you don't have anywhere ATM) push "OK".

Photo bucket also has it preformatted for your individual photos, just cut/paste the relevant code into text box (its the one with the square brackets around IMG - can't show you exactly without getting this system in a knot).
