Need a Spot
Hi, Long time reader, first post... Anyway I have an 89 standard cab 4x4 truck with a bad frame, bad engine great body. I have an opportunity to purchase an 88 standard cab 4x4 truck with good frame, good engine but bad body. My question is are the cab and doghouse mounting locations on the frame the same between the body style change? I have placed a 91 bed on an 86 truck without any problems and am wondering if I can swap an entire frame between the different generation trucks without too many headaches. My plan is to place the 89 body on the good 88 frame. The reason I think this can be done is that the 89 4runners retained the old body while the p/u's went to the newer body and I'm not sure if yota used different frames. Let me know your thoughts. I tried to do a search but didn't come up with much.

AFAIK you're right on, swap away and feel happy!

Thanks for the response! I'll let you know how things go. I need to do some more checking and measuring before I take the plunge.
I don't have any pics of the bed. I don't have a digital camera yet... The truck it's on is just a work beater. The bed is black and the cab is blue so it looks odd but the body lines align up pretty decent. If it was painted the same color I don't think anyone would notice unless they really knew yotas.

I put a 2nd gen 2WD body on my 1st gen 4WD frame with only some minor work, so I'd think what you want to do is very possible, maybe even easier. Beds seem to be totally interchangeable.
