Need a Spot
I have a 1997 Isuzu rodeo 3.2L, Last night on the way home from work, I noticed that every time I steped on the gas the voltage gage would drop below 12 volts. The fan would slow down and lights would dim. After 4 or 5 seconds it would recover again. This morning I went to start it up, it ran 3 or 4 seconds, the voltage gage droped hard and it stopped running. now it only turns over and won't start. I will check for blown fuses. What should be looked at first?

I'll bet on the alternator.

You could not have written a better description of a failing alternator if you had tried. You need to have it load tested at your local auto parts store.

Jim,
Thank you for the confident reply. Sorry for the double post.
I will get to work on the alternator. Also, quite relived that the fuel pump is not suspect at this point!

It costs more for a replacment alternator than it does for an in-tank feul pump for our trucks.

That was before I could tell you that I found the fuel pump fuse to be blown. Thats why it wouldnt start. Now it keeps blowing the fuel pump fuse. Is it the alternator thats causing this? I feel its the fuel pump. Thanks to you guys( I really do appreciate the responses <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />) my wife thinks Im nuts. How can a bad alt blow the fuel pump fuse...over and over? Doesnt a bad fuel pump do that?
