Just replaced the Cat Conv and muffler (CC is aftermarket, muffler is toyota stock). Why is it so throaty? There are no leaks at either joint between exhaust, cc and muffler. All "throaty" sounds coming from tailpipe.

>>>*A nice deep sounding purr is the sound of a happy engine. Older systems can get plugged, thin in spots, rust and debris can build up inside the system in lower spots, there is always moisture there.

It sounds to me like you made your engine happy. What you don't want to hear is a choppy sound (think of clapping your hands at high speed) or a loud roar when the throttle is opened.

A popping sound can mean misfire but can also mean the exhaust gasses are trying to go two directions, the "pop" is when they meet in the middle.

It takes energy to make noise, energy is power that should be taking you down the road.

The best sound of all is a deep throaty sound at lower to mid RPM....*EB
