I need to get a tranny jack to get a 3.4 swap started but I don't know what kind to buy. Anyone have one they like? I've been told to get one with some way to adjust the angle. I'll be removing and installing an auto tranny with a tranfer case or 2 attached, so they will be long and heavy. I've seen some cheap ones at a discount tool store.
93 4X4 ext-cab, auto, SR5, 3.4 V6, supercharged, 2.1" pulley, URD fuel mods, Aquamist WI, IPT valve body mod, dual cases, 4" superlift, Alcan springs, 33 BFG MT, ARB locked front & rear, 5.29 US Gears, RB 1" BL, 1.5" BJ spacers, TJM T-17, Warn m8000.

I got one that mounted to the top of my floor jack from Harbor Freight: It suited my needs and does have the tilt feature. I was able to pull dual transfer cases off my 4Runner and also the transmission and get them both back up afterwards working alone.

I own the same adapter... It works, but not nearly as well as a real tranny jack. Also, it's tall, so it can be a pain to get the tranny/tcase(s) out from under the truck even when fully dropped...

Thanks Roger, were you able to install them assembled as one or did you install the tranny and then bolt up the duel cases?

I bought the same jack as 4Crawler last week. It's been useful so far. Paid $35 after using a 20% discount coupon and taxes. For the price, can't beat it.

That's interesting, what size tires and how much lift do you have? I've got a donor Taco that's completely stock and I can see that being a problem with it. I guess I could jack the truck up to get clearance? With my 4-5" lifted 93 with 33's I can't see that being a problem though.

Thanks Roger, were you able to install them assembled as one or did you install the tranny and then bolt up the duel cases? I pulled the dual cases as one unit as their failure was the whole reason for tearing into that part of the truck. Once out, I decided to pull the tranny just to inspect the clutch and make sure it was in good shape. Not that hard to mate up the t-case to tranny in the truck, but with one case, it would probably be no problem to pull both as one unit. Add the 2nd t-case and that alone gets to be pretty cumbersome.

No way you'll get it out from under the Taco... I've used it on many vehicles: 87 4Runner; 3" lift and 33's 94 4Runner; 4" lift and 33's 86 xcab, 4-5" lift and 35's I've always removed the tcase(s) and tranny as a unit. The bellhousing is part of the problem when doing it this route. I've had to have someone help me get it under the vehicle in all cases, and w/ the lower trucks, I've put the tranny/tcase(s) on the jack UNDER the vehicle. If you can afford a tranny jack (6-10x the price of the adapter), you'll likely be happy. For me, I'm not willing to spend that much $$ when the adapter works w/ some frustration.

Thanks Brian, sounds like you have done quite a few. What about the scissor type jacks, ever tried one of them? I saw one for around $100 that looked pretty sturdy.

To be honest, the adapter is the only thing I've ever used. However, if it helps, one of my good friends went out and spent $300 on a tranny jack after using my adapter. Whatever you get, make sure that it can go high enough to reach your tranny/tcase... I don't think these were typically designed for lifted trucks.
