Getting the Wheeling Fever

My Isuzu BW WCT5 tranny is shot. Can you guys recommend either a good company to buy a remanufactured one or what is the possibility of converting over to a BW-T5 from an S10 or Mustang? Also, I did a manual to automatic conversion back in the seventies and didn't need any special wiring for the automatic tranny back then, why can't I convert to an automatic like I did back then without the need for all the electrical wiring harness and stuff?
